ContentTwo leaves torn out of a ring-bound notebook containing Bohuslav Martinů's handwritten notes. Dated entries from 14 September 1954 to 13 April 1955. BM mentions compositions available, projects in progress, records income and expenses, and snippets of thoughts and reflections. Minor note on the libretto of the opera RUNNING. How long is [Jasha] Veissi to have exclusivity [on RHAPSODY CONCERTO]? He also writes a reflection on the relationship to tradition. Among other remarks: today's music lacks purity of form; the culture of second-hand books; shortage (scarcity) makes all other human values, art, beauty, ideals, and philosophies nothing more than empty mockery; the use of human wretchedness as propaganda.
