| Content | Over the past few years, Panton has published some of Bohuslav Martinů's works thanks to Charlotte Martinů. The following year, according to the editorial plan, five more works by BM will be published: the DIVERTIMENTO (CONCERTINO) for piano (left hand) and orchestra (1926); SCHERZO for piano (1924); CZECH RIVERSIDE I, II (1930,1931) for female choirs; LETTERS FOR CHILDREN'S CHORUS (1959); BIRD HOURS for children's choir (1959). The following works will appear in the new edition: PETRKLICH for soprano, alto, violin and piano (1954); SCHERZO for flute and piano (added a line for the missing date and scoring---). During the years 1959 to 1975 they entered into several contracts with ChM for the publication of BM works. They deeply regret the impossibility of respecting the agreed deadlines for the publication of the works despite all their efforts They therefore ask ChM to allow the following works to be published at the rate of 4-5 per year in such a way that they will all be published no later than 1985. These are:
DIVERTIMENTO (CONCERTINO) for piano left hand and orchestra, (1926);
KYTICE for solos, mixed choir (1937);
SONGS FOR CHILDREN'S CHOIR;
CONCERTINO for cello, piano, percussion and wind instrument;
ballet suite MOTHER WHO DUPED (1926);
overture to the opera THE SOLDIER AND THE DANCER (1927);
PLAYS ABOUT MARY (1934);
OVERTURE (1953);
OIDIPUS (1936) incidental music for a play by André Gide;
A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE UNKNOWN (1953) unfinished opera;
THE SOLDIER AND THE DANCER, opera;
VZPOURA, ballet;
WEEK OF [sic] GOODNESS, unfinished opera;
THREE WISHES OR THE PROTIVENESS OF LIFE, opera;
Tears of the Knife, opera;
WHO IS THE MOST POWERFUL IN THE WORLD, BALLET;
MAGIC NIGHTS )1918);
BIRD FEAST (1959) for children's choir.
In addition to these contracts, they also make moves for works for which they do not yet have scores and do what they can to obtain them. For this reason, they are asking ChM to allow the wording of the contracts to be changed so that PANTON will publish these works within five years of obtaining the scores. These works are as follows:
FESTIVE OVERTURE (1931);
ENTRACTE, music for radio;
KOLEDA (1917), a ballet with songs to folk texts;
THREE SONGS ON APPOLLINAIRE (1930);
TRIO FOR FLUTE, VIOLIN AND BASSOON (1937);
SKICI (1931), six pieces for solo piano;
FOUR COMPOSITIONS (1931), for solo piano;
PLAYS (1931), six pieces for solo piano;
SIX SIMPLE SONGS (1917);
TWO MALE CHORUSES (1919);
THE PASSING HALF (1922) for orchestra;
STRING TRIO (TRIO NO.1, 1923);
MONTHS (1922) for singing with piano on texts by Karel Toman.
They are also interested in any works that are not under contract and have not yet been published. For example, they would like to release the "String Quartet", which has not yet been published, and is in the Calver Quator repertoire. In Professor Páleníček's opinion, the score and all the material is with Mr. Calvet. They would be very happy if ChM would assist them in obtaining/loaning materials or photocopies. |
| Note | Written on a letterhead of the Panton publishing. Signatures of Luboš Sluka and dr. Valenta. On the first page, Charlotte's Martinů is corrected; in the upper part is a note: "3 copies handed to ČHF dr. Klos 11th September 1979, MM". On the last page there is another (unreadable) signature; under that, the name "SLUKA" is written in capitals; under that, there is a signature of Charlotte Martinů, along with a text "I agree with your proposition. 28th October 1975"; to this, there is an arrow from another date: "17: 23rd November 1978". |
