| Content | Marie Martinů thanks for the letter of 24.10.1958. It goes without saying that Karel Šebánek could not go to the funeral, Karel N[ovák] immediately excused him. Mr. Klement sent the score [SEXTETU, H 174?], with apologies for the delay, he made copies of the score as they often have it on the programme. He is now describing the scores that are in the local Museum at the request of KS: PLAYS ABOUT MARY; MERRIMENT ON THE BRIDGE; SPIEL I., II., III.; INVENTION; INSTRUCTIONAL SONATINA; THEATRE BEYOND THE GATE; STRING QUARTET I? [sic], III., IV.; voices for LITTLE DANCE SUITE I. to IV.; CONCERTINO FOR VIOLONCELLO; BEAUTIFUL NIGHTS; Ishtar; BLUE HOUR. There are many more smaller scores for first works. He thinks of KS and his worries with his sister, perhaps MM's letter will not reach him in Prague. Have him write to see if they could at least talk to BM by phone. And when it is possible, also let MM give info about the Union as she wrote about it in her last letter. MM's nerves are a bit better, she doesn't go into town, only on Soulstice, but she's been outraged again, she needs to be calm. If KS needs more definite news about the scores, let her write. MM asks that someone (perhaps 'the other Karel [Novák?]) send her two programmes from the premiere of ROMANCE, she says it was very beautiful and she doesn't even know what's in the libretto. She will give one of the programmes to the Museum and keep the other one herself. |
