Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů requests support for further compositional activities from the Rieger Fund at Svatobor. He cites the results of his work as proof. The ballets ISTAR and WHO IS THE MOST POWERFUL IN THE WORLD have been performed at the National Theatre in Prague and in Brno, and the National Theatre in Brno will perform THE SPRING and the opera THE SOLDIER AND THE DANCER this season. The Boston Philharmonic will perform THE STORM in Boston, New York and Chicago, and it is also on the program in London and Paris. It is the first work in waiting performed by this orchestra. KITCHEN REVUE will be performed by J[armilla] Kröschel. HALF-TIME will be performed at the ISCM Festival. The SMITH QUARTET [No. 2] has had success in Paris and elsewhere, as has the DUO FOR HOUSEL AND VIOLONCELLO No. 1. He also wrote the ballets THE STRANGE FLIGHT and "L'APPEL DU MONDE" [the unpublished ballet THE CHALLENGE OF THE WORLD], and COME ON, which he plans to commission for the Russian Ballet in Monte Carlo. He names the performances of the works: SQUIRREL QUINTET, CONCERT FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA [No. 1], SQUIRREL TRIO, SQUIRREL QUARTET No. 1, FILM EN MINIATURE, "POLLS" [SIX POLLS?], "MODERN DANCES" [THREE SKITS]. BM can attest to the success of his compositions with reviews from our and foreign newspapers. BM hopes to be granted support that would allow him to devote himself entirely to his work and not worry about existence.
