Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů submits an application to the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts for a grant of 4,000.00, which the Czech Academy is offering for the year 1931. BM writes that the Czech Academy is certainly aware of the results of his work and that by granting him support it would greatly facilitate his further activities. As a result of the economic crisis, living conditions are now more difficult, especially for artists. As evidence of his work to date, BM informs us of the performances of LA BAGGARE in London, [TRIA?] and [SONATA?] in Paris and Brussels, and [KVARTETA?] in Copenhagen (Pro Arte). In Paris, LA BAGGARE (Pierre Monteux) will be performed for the first time this season, as well as the following premieres: the SERENade (Strarama Orchestra), [CONCERT FOR VIOLONCELLO AND ORCHESTR?] and LES RONDES (Concerts Co....), a new string quartet CONCERT FOR STRING QUARTET AND ORCHESTRA (Roth Quartet). The Royal Theatre in Copenhagen will premiere new ballets by BM. BM concludes by saying that he hopes the Czech Academy will take into account his work to date and grant him a scholarship to continue his work.
