| Content | In 1964, the music department of Dilia was to concentrate on the gradual publication of Bohuslav Martinů's free music-dramatic works. The task has not yet been accomplished. The writer encloses the minutes of a meeting of the Music and Drama Committee on 2 March 1965, where the subject was discussed.
The works in question are: THE PLAYS ABOUT MARY (the material is held by the National Theatre), ISTAR (now in the repertoire of the Smetana Theatre), THE SOLDIER AND THE DANCER, THE Tears of the Knife, THREE WISHES, WHO IS THE MOST POWERFUL IN THE WORLD?, THE SPRING, THE MOTHER WHO DUPED, THE WONDERFUL FLIGHT, THE CHESS OF KINGS, PARID'S JUDGMENT and THE SHRINKER.
The titles and information are taken from the monograph on BM by Miloš Šafránek. He believes, as does MŠ, that these compositions are not represented by anyone. It will be possible to discuss the materials for the compositions with Charlotte Martinů during her visit.
A problem has arisen with the material for THE VOICE OF THE FOREST. Czechoslovak Radio has the piece and the material has now been commissioned from Dilia by the AMU Opera Studio. The radio station does not know whether they are authorized to lend the Opera Studio all the material; Dilia is supposed to know.
This, too, can be discussed with ChM, although her information is not always reliable - she did not know, for example, that KUCHYŇSKÁ REVUE was represented by Leduc in Paris.
The writer asks for a report on how ChM feels about the proposal. In the music department, she will concentrate on PLAYS OF MARY for the time being and then on ISTAR. |
