ContentMiloš Šafránek writes to Vasil Škach [the personal secretary of the President of the Republic] regarding the granting of aid from the fund of President [Tomáš] Masaryk, which the National Assembly voted for his 80th birthday. MŠ argues for the granting of support to Bohuslav Martinů, Jan Zrzavý and Josef Šíma. In doing so, it advocates most strongly for BM, a brief list of whose compositions is included in the letter, as well as critiques of performances of his works. MS mentions the composer's poor financial situation and the impossibility of his return to Czechoslovakia. BM is to be granted regular monthly support for two years. He and his wife would need about 1500-2000 francs. The MoS goes on to describe BM's musical activities to date.
