Content and physical description
ContentMiloš Šafránek read in the newspapers that Melantrich had a new music department and urged Jaroslav Šalda to secure a proper contract for the production of Bohuslav Martinů. Schott's music publishing house had already had this idea, but due to the political situation they did not implement the plans. What follows is a brief overview of BM's work and an outline of its use from a commercial point of view. Melantrich could contact the existing publishers of BM's works. BM would have liked a contract for 2 to 3 years with monthly advances of frs 3,000 for which he would supply finished works as agreed. According to the MC, this would be a good investment for the future as BM's position in the west is quite exceptional. Initially Melantrich could, for example, just rent orchestral material and scores, from which it would make a nice turnover even without publishing the works in print. BM needs someone to oversee the performance of its works abroad. The composer could also be required to provide literary collaboration and could be the representative of the Melantrich music department in Paris.
