Content and physical description
ContentKarel Šebánek begs Bohuslav Martinů not to send the notes to anyone else, he has the opportunity for many performances. He had to take the SONATA FOR CLAAVIER to Karel Šolc, Mirka Pokorná will play it on tour in Japan and [Jan] Panenka has it in his programme for this season. KS tells Bohuslav Martinů that the staging of one of his operas has been approved and will be performed in May 1959 during the Festival in Prague. It now depends on which of the operas it will be. KS has commissioned a piano extract of MIRANDOLINA from Universal Edition via Dilio for director Karel Kašlík. KS also needs to know when GREEK PASSIONS will be completed and if a preliminary look at the libretto would be possible. He and Jaroslav Doubrava believe that it would be more appropriate to perform the GREEK PASSIONS and can influence the opera director Jan Seidl in this regard. Vojcek will be performed again, and perhaps JULIETTA as well. KS needs to know BM's judgement and possible advice. For Dilio, the matter needs to be prepared so that they cannot make excuses. Because of JULIETTA (Wiesbaden and Honolka) they have some trouble with Boosey etc. KS asks to be told if SONATA NO. 3 and SONATA FOR VIOLA AND CLAAVIER have been published in print and if so where, there is a demand for them so that KS can inform foreign artists. KS encloses a letter from a pupil of Alexander Plock asking for his address. The biography was quickly read and the author did a very good job. KS felt that the manuscript needed to be properly prepared for printing so that the edition would not be dropped. A [CONCERT FOR CEMBALO AND SMALL ORCHESTRA?] was performed at the Municipal House and was a nice success, but because of the space the harpsichord was not always heard well. The CS also informs that preparations are underway in Brno for the performance of EPOS ON GILGAMEŠ and in Belgrade a MUSIC CONCERT [No. 2?] will probably be played by Jaroslav Kocián's pupil Vl. Markovič and on 12 and 13 February the Czech Philharmonic will perform FRESKY PIERA DELLA FRANCESCA etc. At the end of the letter KS wishes a Merry Christmas and adds a note that he will send the calendar.
