Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů writes to Ján Papánek following their last conversation regarding the extension of his financial support. BM also wrote to the Minister. The following is a list of BM's professional achievements. He has completed a HOUSEL CONCERT WITH ORCHESTRA, to be premiered in January 1942. The score, which will be published in print by Boosey Hawkes, has been requested by Bronislav Huberman and other violinists (Ruth Posselt, Louis Krasner) are also interested. Sergei Koussevitzky performs CONCERTO GROSSO with the Boston Orchestra at the premiere [14 Nov. 1941]. [Alfred] Wallenstein performed THREE RICERCARI on NBC radio. A SMITH QUARTET was performed at the Berkshire Festival. At the Russian Ballet, he collaborated on a production of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances. In March [1942] the premiere of SINFONIE for piano and orchestra with [Léon] Barzin and Germaine Leroux conducting will take place in New York [the premiere will not finally take place until 13 November 1942]. For Rudolf Firkušný he wrote a piano FANTASIA and RONDO [Fantasy and Toccata H 281], and is working on a CONCERT SUITE for [Samuel] Dushkin. He wants to submit the score of DOUBLE CONCERTO to Artur Toscanini. He has been elected to the committee for the Festival of Contemporary Music. BM asks that JP help him get an extension of support. BM encloses receipts for JP to give to Dr. [Jan] Cervenko, along with BM's new address.
