Content and physical description
ContentCharlotte Martinů has been in the hospital in Liestal for more than a week. After several X-rays and blood tests, Dr. Scholle told her that she has a stomach ulcer and that her heart is not doing well. So she needs to rest a lot this summer. It's all the result of her overwork from travel, her illness and the shock of her sister Georgette Bécourt's death. It is therefore impossible for her to go to the festival in Prague [Prague Spring]. If her health permits, she could come to the International Music Festival in Brno. She is sad about it, but [Maja] Sacher says that ChM should give up all traveling and not do what she has been doing. She takes care of ChM, so ChM has to listen to her. She also wants to write to the addressee all that Karel Shebanek has done for her. Her mail has been waiting for her in Vieux-Moulin for two weeks. Hopefully she will have the correspondence before she leaves for Vieux-Moulin. With the plane scheduled for tomorrow, April 24, ChM asked that KS ask [Joseph] Urban for two tickets for a performance of JULIETTA on May 13 for herself and Brian Large - the boy who will do the TV broadcast on Bohuslav Martinů. She wrote to BL to ask for a ticket for the addressee or KS. She also asked him for medicines called Adelphan and Nisorex. 12 noon: She received many letters, also the one from KS on 10 April. She asks the addressee to tell him that ChM must not overexert himself. She also read a letter from [Erich] Leinsdorf, he has been in Prague since 16 May, KS must go to his concert and ask on behalf of ChM if EL is doing active research. She would be grateful that he does and regrets that she will not be able to see him. [Bohus] Heran, who wrote on 4 April about the international competition to be held in Brno 1-2 October, asks her about the CONCERTO FOR VIOLONCELLO AND ORCHESTRA No. 2, published by Schott Music, and also about the CONCERTO DA CAMERA, published by Bärenreiter. Have KS write to them about sending these two pieces to BH. The contracts from Bärenreiter, which ChM was to import, will unfortunately have to wait until October or when health permits. Thanks KS for the programme of the festival in Prague [Prague Spring?]. She is very sad that she will not hear BM's compositions and that she will not see her friends. [Adolf] Streuli has not yet received a reply from Dr. Hürlimann at Atlantis Publishers. ChM thinks that the catalogues will be published by Panton. She has also received a silly letter from Associated Music Publishers. She replies to them that she knows no such fools. Regarding, for example, Bedrich Macenauer, she thought he would be happy to receive madrigals [CZECH MADRIGALS] from Schott Music. ChM would also be happy to have them and to hear them. Let KS apologize to her for not writing to him, she can't do it anymore as she is tired. Rafael Kubelík was in Philadelphia where he played a concert for two orchestras (?) [probably CONCERT FOR TWO PIANOS AND ORCHESTRA?] He will also be playing FRESKY PIERA DELLA FRANCESCA in Chicago and Edinburgh this summer.

NoteAddressee of the letter is probably Jaromír Špaček, because Karel Šebánek consulted with him ChM dealings about bargains; ChM probably expected, that both of them will read the letter
