| Content | When Alfred Kalmus returned from America, he found her letter of 1 January and thanked her for her kindness. Since Charlotte Martinů understands English perfectly, she writes the letter in English, it's faster that way. For most of the works her dear husband subjected them to, they made two contracts. One with Universal Edition, London for the UK and US territories and another contract with UE, Vienna for the other countries. This applies to the following works: CONCERTO DA CAMERA FOR HOUSEL AND SMITH ORCHESTRA WITH PIANO AND PERcussion Instruments, CONCERT FOR CEMBALO AND SMALL ORCHESTRA, LES FRESQUES DE PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA, THE ROCK, THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH, CONCERT FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA no. To these were added THREE CZECH DANCES [for two pianos], which were exchanged for TWO COMPOSITIONS for harpsichord ["Harpsichord Pieces"?], but it is not yet known whether they were performed. As far as he knows, the GREEK PASSIONS also belong to UE, Vienna for the whole world. He will make sure and let her know. The world premiere of GREEK PASSION is scheduled for June this year in Zurich, but it is not yet certain whether this premiere will be postponed. She is now going to Vienna and will find out if the changes mentioned are quite right or if some other changes must be made. [Dictated by Dr. Kalmus before his departure and signed in his absence.] |
