Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů writes to Karel Novák to tell [Miloš] Sadl not to play the Cello Concerto No. 1, which he played at the [Prague Spring] festival, until he receives a new score. BM heard the work from the radio the other day and there are many mistakes in the material, it was lost in 1940 and someone must have "corrected" it. BM therefore reworked the piece and it looks quite different now. Where did they get the material from? Schott is going to release a new version, so have Zadlo and the others wait. BM knows [Miloš] Šaf[ránek's] critics, but he doesn't have a monopoly on BM, so KN should forget about [his] objections. BM sent [František] Smetana Cello Sonata No. 3. BM is glad that they have recorded KYTICE, but he has not heard it yet. SYMPHONIC FANTASIES is already being printed, they will surely get it. HYMNUS TO ST. JAMES was written only for the Polička church and BM does not like it being played elsewhere. BM is saddened by the news about [Václav] Talich and wishes him a speedy recovery. [František] Muzika is a hypochondriac. Marka [Martinů] is already home from the hospital. BM is saddened by the news about Marka [Nováková, Karl's sister]. BM often thinks of Stanya [Novák]. BM regrets KN's separation from his wife [Bohumila Nováková], he loved her. Why doesn't KN marry Herberta [Masaryk]? She is a good girl. He thanks her for her greetings and remembers how they were all together in Brittany with St. Novák and Frantiska [Nováková].
