Content and physical description
ContentPaul Sacher spoke to Charlotte Martinů about the letter of 17 November [1959] sent by Karl Vötterle and discussed with her the various questions and information contained therein. He sends ChM's reply and comments:
ChM is aware of the procedures and work on the publication of Bohuslav Martinů's works.
CONCERT FOR FLUTE, HOUSEL AND ORCHESTRA: BM submitted the orchestral score to the publishers shortly before his death and according to information from Mrs Majer it was handed over on 26 August 1959.
Since the publishing house is apparently having difficulty interpreting the disputed parts of the score, PS is sending separately in the following mail the complete operating material of the concerto, which ChM has generously provided for this purpose.
MIRACLES DE NOTRE DAME (PLAYS ABOUT MARY): ChM would welcome the publisher's acceptance and publication of the work; ChM will continue negotiations during her next visit to Prague in May 1960.
CONCERT FOR OBOY AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRA: According to ChM, this work is published by Eschig in Paris.
RAPSODY - CONCERTO FOR VIOLA AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRA: Although ChM is not sure whether this work has already been passed on to another publisher, he is sending a copy of the score to PS Bärenreiter for inspection and consideration.
SONATA DA CAMERA FOR VIOLONCELLO AND SMALL ORCHESTRA: ChM asks cellist Henri Honegger to give her the only existing score, after which Bärenreiter could publish the work.
Concerto for Violin, Piano and Orchestra: PS will also send a copy of this work to the publisher. ChM claims that this work was promised to Boosey & Hawkes or Melantrich.
There are two CONCERTS FOR TWO PIANOES AND ORCHESTRA. Publisher. is now interested in the second one, but ChM is also willing to offer a DUO CONCERTANT POUR 2 VIOLONS ET ORCHESTRE. Only a manuscript exists of this score, which PS would be reluctant to entrust to the Post Office.
INCANTATION: ChM will request the score from Rudolf Firkušný so that the publisher can publish this work.
PS complains that negotiations with ChM are time-consuming and difficult. ChM is not well versed in her husband's work and for many pieces does not know where they have been published.
