Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů is trying to contact Ernest Roth again, he doesn't know why he hasn't got any news from him for a long time. He states his current address at the Great Northern Hotel and the address where he will be moving soon. BM is waiting for corrections of the SYMPHONY NO. 6 and up-to-date information about LOCANDIERA and JULIETTE. He wants to know which of the sent scores will ER accept and how it will be with their contract in the coming years. BM has been addressing these questions to ER and his office for four months and they are still unanswered. Even the New York branch has no news for him. He receives news from Prague about the OPENING OF SPRINGS and PRIMROSE, he received a message from Paul Sacher that ER will not take THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH and from Australia he received news about the THE OBOE CONCERTO. The Boston corrections for SYMPHONY No. 6 are correct, except for page 11 where in the flute there is b natural instead of b flat. The title will be: Dedicated to Charles Munch for the 75th anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. BM hopes that LOCANDIERA's piano score is finished and that ER will soon answer all his questions.

Dear Ernest:

I gave up a hope to hear from you but am trying just the same to provok [provoke] you I dont know what happened. My address is Great Northern Hotel 118 West 57 st. until decembre [December] 15. After I have an apartement [apartment] 108 East 60, Street. But if you have written at my old one 24 West 58 I would have get it. I wonder what happened with so many things, for ex. Am waiting for the correction of Fantaisies Symph; for the news of Locandiera & Julietta, for your decision of my scores what you take and what not, about the contract for next years and about so many things which I am describing to you and to your office for four months. I don’t know what to make of it, the N.Y. office has no news for me too and so I feel completely forgotten composer and do not know what to think of it. I receive every other day letters from Praha about “Otvirani Studanek” and Petrklic, and from Sacher I received news that you do not take Gilgamesh and from Australy urgent letters about oboe concerto and so on. I saw the corrections from Boston for Fantaisies, they are correct except page 11. where everything is right and only flute has b naturel and not b flat. The tittle will be: Dedicated to Charles Munch for the 75 Anniversary of Boston Sympnony [Symphony] Orchestra. (Comisioned by Charles Munch) I hope the piano score of Locandiera id [is] finished. And I hope I shall have your news very soon about all these things. Still regrette [regret] I missed you in Europe. We will go there in May.

My best regards.

Sincerely yours

[Podpis v.r.:] B. Martinů
