| Content | Bohuslav Martinů writes to Vladimír Vaňek that he shamefacedly wrote to the Segretario [presumably the secretariat of the Ricordi competition, where BM had sent the score of ARIADNA] to have the score sent back to the address given, whereupon they immediately sent it to another address, so everything is fine. BM must look for another outlet, which will not be difficult. Hopefully BM has sufficiently described the premiere of JULIETTE in Wiesbaden to him, now he is waiting for royalties. BM has plans for JULIETTE, which he doesn't want to talk about until they are successful. He has finally finished the GREEK PASSION. Besides that, he has again created NONET for the Prague Association [dedicated to the Czech Nonet] and another poem by [Miloslav] Bures about MIKE FROM THE MOUNTAINS for the same ensemble as in STUDENTS. Now he's out of a job, doing tax returns in the US, they need money there for all the Comittas that go around the world advising BMs to choose this profession next time. The Martins live alone now, BM can't go to Basel, looking forward to Nice, where they want to go in May and June before the tourists are there. BM has now had two US premieres, in Louisville ESTAMPES and in Boston PARABOLY, they tried to hear the Boston concert on the radio but heard nothing, and they have a proper radio, not the box BM had in Rome. A ticket came from Sweden [apparently from the Jakerls] saying that [Rafael] Kubelík was there and playing FRESKY, so I guess they're going to celebrate. VV is probably building cities there and looking forward to the holidays. They're reminiscing about Roman walks. |
