Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů did not receive a reply from Vladimír Vaněk to his previous letter, so he writes again on a new typewriter. Did VV hear Gilgamesh's broadcast from Turin? Martinů caught nothing but grumbling. Does VV know how this year's opera competition in Venice [the Ricordi prize, for which BM wanted to enter his opera ARIADNA] went? BM is trying to finish GREEK PASSIONS, but is in no hurry because the sun is all summer and not conducive to work. Jakerl sent successful photographs and other memories. They have ordered the OPENING STUDIES records from Prague, but as usual they arrived broken. It is full summer in Nice. The performance of JULIETTA in Wiesbaden is somehow confirmed, so it is possible that there will be a performance next season. The Martins were supposed to go to Basel for the performance of SEXTET, but the train journey takes 18 hours and the plane is prohibitively expensive, so they're staying here.
