| Content | Evžen Zámečník thanks Jan Novák for the letter and the view from New York. EZ was in New York in 1977 with the Carnegie Hall Philharmonic. At that time, Jiri Voskovec was there in the small theater and EZ's colleagues talked with him. EZ writes that they are currently showing cycles of Voskovec and Werich films, and last year they were remembering Ježek, who would have been 75. EZ gave Jan Trojan's letter about JN to read, he was delighted. He sends his address and phone number, they can talk together about Moravian folk song. EZ had no idea what record JN was sending, hadn't listened to it beforehand, but acknowledges that the singers are terrific. A record with the GREEK PASSIONS (conductor Charles Mackerras, English singers and the Brno Philharmonic) should be available abroad. The Czech version was recorded by conductor Libor Pešek. EZ asks if JN would like a record with a symphony by Bohuslav Martinů. EZ has almost everything that has been published, it is the only music he listens to constantly and repeatedly. He takes JN's advice on piano stylization to heart. Next, EZ writes about his compositions. He mentions the Brno premiere of Zdeněk Pololáník's ballet Pierot, EZ had seen it years ago and thinks ZP could do better. EZ founds the Brno Brass Band and writes to many composers for new compositions for the ensemble. He has heard similar ensembles in Holland, England and Germany and wants to do something good here. He would like to play Vejvanovsky, cultivated transcriptions of Bach and original stuff in smaller forms. He would be grateful if JN would compose something for them. The ensemble has a total of 11 players, the conductor is EZ. EZ will be in Denmark at the end of June with the Bohuslav Martinů Chamber Orchestra, and in Austria in August - he wonders if JN will be travelling there. He concludes by informing that the Brno Philharmonic is currently in Japan and Russia. Wishes JN success in Aarhus and has greetings for his wife and daughters. |
