| Content | In the opening of the letter, Karel Šebánek thanks Bohuslav Martinů for sending him the sheet music and informs him that Southern publishing has messed up his QUARTET [No.7 - CONCERTO DA CAMERA] in such a way that it will discourage the players and urges BM to scold them for damaging it. He gave the sheet music for the SONATA FOR VIOLA AND Clavier to Antonín Hyks, and also lent it to Jaroslav Motlík of the Czech Philharmonic and [Lubomir] Malý, a pupil of Ladislav Černý - who will play it at a competition in Switzerland. KS writes to Boosey ([Ernst] Roth) for the manuscript and materials with the score of the CONCERTO FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA No. 2, then he will let BM know what they have replied. Emil Leichner of the [Czech Nonet] was thrilled to receive and include something from BM. KS asked that he not send them the manuscript, possibly just address it directly to KS, have it copied and send the original to Polička. He also writes that he sent the book to his boyfriend. Karel Šolc brought the letter to BM at the same time as the letter to KS, which BM wrote to him and enclosed in his score. KS has no brazolette, but his sister will send it to him when she goes to Paris. Maria Stader has arrived, but she leaves again on Tuesday, so she probably won't get the bracelet until then. BM's fee of 7,946Kčs for THEATRE BEHIND THE GATE has arrived. KS does not understand BM's question to Juliette about translation. These are things they should discuss in person, but in order for him to come to BM, he needs a document to present to the Ministry. He therefore asks BM to write a brief note on a separate sheet saying that he needs to talk to KS about publishing matters and KS will then take it further with the help of Jan Seidl or Václav Dobiáš. EL has just called to say that [NONET No. 2] is included as the first performance at the Salzubrk Festival on 27 July 1959. KS needs to know how long it will take, possibly the movements and especially the title. This report is being handled by KS for EL. |
