Content and physical description
ContentAlfred Schlee does not yet have a definitive libretto [presumably for THE GREEK PASSIONS]. Bohuslav Martinů is to send him a copy as soon as possible. Dr. Max Tau has requested modifications to the contract; he wants a share of the profits from the rentals. If MT does not agree to the Universal Edition proposal, BM would have to give up a share of the libretto. BM is to send MT the terms and hopefully they can come to an agreement. Once everything is cleared up, AS will contact Griffin and send BM a definitive contract.
Herbert Karajan hasn't decided yet, but has instructed an assistant to start studying the GREEK PASSIONS. If Rafael Kubelík would like to take the premiere at Covent Garden, they should accept. The opera would be in the original version [English] and they could still then make changes in the German version. Oldani at La Scala in Milan is also interested in the opera, but AS would recommend a Milan performance after the world premiere.
Paul Sacher is impatient and asks for a piano part for the performers of EPOS ON GILGAMES, UE tries to accommodate him.
Should they send him a cheque for LES FRESQUES DE PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA to Italy?
Could he get the material for the CONCERT FOR CEMBALO AND SMALL ORCHESTRA from Mme. de Lacour? AS agrees not to give anyone an exclusive on this work, it would prevent other soloists from performing the work. They cannot contact Heller until the situation with the materials [for the CONCERT FOR CEMBALO AND SMALL ORCHESTRA] is clarified. They have only one score in UE. AS has no news from the Cleveland performance of LES FRESQUES DE PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA.
Alfred Kalmus will talk to BM about publishing THREE CZECH DANCES for two pianos.
