Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav [and Charlotta] Martinů are in Lisbon. Before their departure [from Aix-en-Provence] they had not received any more mail from Paul [and Maja] Sacher. Correspondence is slow.
The travel agency told them that their seats are booked for 21 March. BM and ChM, however, hope to get on the ship earlier, preferably in February.
The journey [from Aix-en-Provence to Lisbon] was difficult because of the cold weather, but otherwise all went well. They travelled for five days.
They are now well. They met many friends in Lisbon. There will be an evening on the radio devoted to his music (with Pedro de Freitas Branco) based on material he has with him: the [SMITH] SEXTET, TRE RICERCARI and the DOUBLE CONCERT.
BM praises the change of atmosphere.
He has good news from New York, where he is already expected. If they can sail in mid-February, they will arrive just in time for the premiere of SINFONIETTA GIOCOSA ["Sinfonia"] for piano and orchestra, which BM completed in Aix-en-Provence this summer.
He has also completed the SONATA DA CAMERA for cello for Henri Honegger, PS may hear it in Lausanne. BM regrets that he was unable to take with him more of the pieces that remained in Paris.
Does PS have news from Universal Edition [regarding CONCERTA GROSSA]? BM can now apparently write directly.
Does PS have another score of the DOUBLE CONCERT that he could lend to the composer?
BM gives his Lisbon and New York addresses.
He is not yet calm enough to write to Sacher all he would like, but it is improving. He and ChM wish Maja Sacher a happy birthday.
