Content and physical description
ContentOnly now have they got around to informing him of the decision, since only now have they received the autograph of his SERENADE. They like the work very much and they understand why it garnered such great success in Paris. Under the current circumstances, it is not possible to publish so many works at once; hence, they have decided to print the following three: the PIANO TRIO NO. 1, which they already possess, the CONCERTO FOR VLC AND ORCH. NO. 1 and the SERENADE. They have not received Fritz Busch’s reply to their letter, nor have they received the autograph of his opera. They are afraid that the text of the opera “Wohltaetigkeitstag” [THE DAY OF GOOD DEEDS] is too simple for the Germans. Yet they would like to send the LES RONDES and JAZZ SUITE back since they do not consider it right to offer two equally formed works to conductors, which makes conductors’ decision-making as to performances more difficult than when focusing on a single piece. They find both works excellent, and if the Serenade is successful they would like to publish the two compositions. Yet since the Serenade’s title (Eine kleine Nachtmusik) is reminiscent of Mozart, would he be willing to change it? They will be pleased to present proposals.
