| Content | Thank you for the letter, they are glad to know which version of the SPALIK they have at home. If Karel Šebánek needs it, he should write, they will send it. They also have THEATRE BEHIND THE GATE. František Martinů received 1000 crowns from the Art Fund, he would have notified KS but they thought he was on holiday. As for FM's second application for pension, that is probably with the Ministry of Finance, it is the fourth application he has sent. He has asked the Centre twice and the Union once, he has not received a reply. BM has sent the long awaited HYMNUS to SV. James with a dedication to the church in Polička, of which he has childhood memories. However, the performance in Polička will probably not happen now. The dean who used to be there, and who composed the text for it himself, has been transferred, and they have no confidence in the present clergyman - they don't think he would even be sympathetic.
BM also wants to write some male choir for The Hague [presumably THE MOUNTAIN OF THREE LIGHTS] , where he has been asked to do so, he would like some counterpart to the FIELD MASS. He therefore asked Maria Martinů to ask [Miloš] Šafránek, who still remembers how he and Jiří Mucha put [POLNÍ MŠI] together - he would like to use a Czech text, but the author must not be a partisan. There will be a concert in Italy in the famous St. Cecile company. MM asks KS to let them know how BM has arranged royalties in the Czechoslovakia - a colleague of BM's was there and said that BM has renounced them in favour of the Martin family. KS will probably be better informed about this now that he is in the Czech Music Fund. They sincerely wish he got the job he was due. BM sends only tickets now, has a friend visiting from New York [Frank Rybka], Charlotte is in Vieux-Moulin for a few days. |
