| Content | Karel Šebánek recalls his personal encounters with Bohuslav Martinů during their friendship, beginning with their acquaintance in 1929 in the shop of the Music Department of the Art Beseda, where he sold KS. However, he devotes most space to his last visits before the composer's death - on 22 August 1959 Martinů inquired about JULIET [planned to be staged at the National Theatre], the Czech Philharmonic, NONET and friends. BM also planned to write something for "the little theatre in Krumlov" [see letter DLA 1959-07-15]. However, the composer's health deteriorated badly after an hour, so they were forced to leave. He last communicated with BM on 28 August. KS also attended the funeral on 1 September 1959, which was attended by Conrad Beck, Alexandr Čerepnin, Marcel Mihalovici, Václav Dobiáš, Josef Páleníček, Miloslav Bureš and many other personalities. Petr Rybář recited the 2nd movement of the violin SONATINA. |
