Content and physical description
ContentThis is a text written by Miroslav Barvík for Czechoslovak Radio on the occasion of Bohuslav Martinů's 60th birthday. MB writes about BM as an artist who is known all over the world and whose work is the subject of lively discussions. BM has undergone an interesting artistic development in recent decades during events that have had a great influence on most artists around the world. He also mentions BM's native country, which has strongly influenced him. BM combined the influences of French composers and Igor Stravinsky with the development of our modern music, and remained a Czech musician at the core. MB gives a brief account of how BM came to Paris and how he shocked the world with his compositions HALF-TIME and LA BAGGARE (The Cry). He recounts the difficulties of BM's fate abroad. He concludes by praising BM's personality and talent, is glad that his works are being published and performed in this country, and hopes that BM himself will soon visit Czechoslovakia.
