Content and physical description
ContentKarel Šebánek thanks Charlotte Martinů for her letter. Schott Music GmbH & Co. wrote him back that CZECH MADRIGALS will be printed at the end of September and Bedřich Macenauer will receive them directly from Mainz. KS has already written to him. Erich Leinsdorf was saddened by the news of ChM's health and sends his heartfelt greetings. He will look for the score of SYMPHONY No. 2 again. He promised him a performance of SYMPHONY No.5 and Nikita Magalhoff, who had received some piano scores, promised some of BM's concertos. It was impossible for KS to talk to Darius Milhaud and he also only exchanged two words with Serge Baud. He was very busy. But he did talk to several other artists about Bohuslav Martinů's compositions. [Zdeněk] Mácal performed SYMPHONY No. 1 very well and [Josef] Páleníček also played the CONCERT FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA No. 4 (INKANTATION) very well. BM's works were a great success and he sends his congratulations and compliments. He has carried out all the matters that ChM asked him to do in the last letter. He assumes that he has received news from Jaromir Spacek concerning the Dilia. He thanked Zdenka Podhajska for her letter about the manuscripts. He found the manuscript of LES RONDES with material corrected by BM and also the manuscripts of SERENADES No. 1 AND DIVERTIMENTA (SERENADES No. 4), which must have been with Maria Martinů. KŠ has them now. [Brian] Large did not come. Harry Halbreich just asked for him over the phone. So they made an appointment for the next day. As it is impossible for ChM to come to Prague, he forwards her the contract with Bärenreiter in this letter. He has just received a reply from Schott concerning the CONCERT FOR VIOLONCELLO AND ORCHESTRA No. 2 for [Bohus] Herran. They have commissioned an excerpt for cello and piano in New York. He will keep her informed of further developments.
