Content and physical description
ContentThe text is a record of a meeting between Bohuslav Martinů and the director of Dilia, Vojtěch Strnad, on 13-15 July 1959 in Schönenberg.
The distribution of royalties for JULIET was determined, and the contribution of BM and the author of the literary draft ["librettist"] Georges Neveux is mentioned. Dilia will have two scores of JULIETTA made for BM, which the composer will pay for. VS will ensure that BM's royalties for the publication of JULIETTA in Melantrich are duly paid.
BM would welcome a new setting of JULIETTA for the 1960 Prague Spring Festival and would personally attend the premiere. VS will submit this proposal to the National Theatre.
VS will arrange for the composer to be paid his fees for the first half of 1959 for the theatrical performance of MIRANDOLINA and for photographs of the Prague performance.
Dilia has completed the reproduction of the complete orchestral materials for THE SPALIER and THE THEATRE BEHIND THE GATE, and needs written proof of royalty terms.
BM wants to receive performance royalties [in the stated amount]. Dilia will also provide him with royalties for radio and television broadcasts of music-drama works. The share of the librettists and translators will be the same as for the theatrical operation.
The composer is entitled to a 10% share of the rental fees for all materials that Dilia has reproduced (JULIETTA, MIRANDOLINA, SPALICE, THEATRE BEHIND THE GATE) and that it will reproduce (THE VOICE OF THE WOODS).
BM has not granted B&H the right to publish the Czech edition of VESELOHRY NA MOSTĚ. He thinks that the company is wrongly claiming for itself the royalties for performances in Czechoslovakia. Everything will be clarified during the visit of Karel Šebánek.
The composer was impressed by the revolving auditorium in Krumlov. He would like to write a work for it with a Krumlovian or other theme. VS will contact the South Bohemian Theatre to submit suitable themes.
BM needs various material for his future work, including Vítězslav Nezval's Hiding on the Stairs, Alois Jirásek's Mr Johannes and Jarmila Glazarová's The Poor Spinner. VS will arrange to send them.
