Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů immediately replies to a letter from František Bartos [see BarF 1945-08-09] and his questions in the following points: 1) The Philharmonic could perform his 1st and 2nd SYMPHONY - it has already been performed in Geneva and Paris, so the material is in Europe. Boosey & Hawkes should be contacted (he gives an address) with whom he has negotiated more favourable terms for the Philharmonic. It is also possible to perform CONCERTO GROSSO - the material would perhaps be lent free of charge by Charles Munch, with whom he can negotiate with M. Mihalovici (gives address). 2) He will certainly attend the [Prague Spring] Festival, and would like to see the DOUBLE CONCERT performed, 'which was written in the days of Munich'. He would like to invite Paul Sacher (gives address), to whom the work is dedicated and who is a good friend of his and an excellent conductor. 3) He would be happy to write the requested article [for Tempo about his experiences during the war years], it will be no later than November. 4) He received the news of Stanislav Novak's death a few days ago, of course FB can count on his contribution [for the anthology]. But only later, now he is too upset by the news. He will also send an article about Vítězslava Kapralová - is this in any way connected with Jiří Mucha's intention to publish a book about her in London? BM asks Bartos to tell Karel Šebánek not to send any more manuscripts, especially not to JULIET. He has lost many manuscripts and would not want to lose this one. BM even wrote to Šebánek directly. BM received a letter saying that they would like him in Prague at the master school, which made him very happy, he is looking forward to returning. He still has to stay for the premieres of III. and IV. SYMPHONY, he could come to Europe in January - the premiere of TWO CONCERTS is in Paris at the end of February, he would like to be there. He asks about Talich and sends greetings to friends.
