Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů thanks the news that pleased him; especially the one about Václav Talich. BM did not believe it and wrote to Talich himself a month ago through Otakar Šourek and now he is writing to him again. He also hopes that František Bartos has received his article (also about Stanislav Novák) and that when he is in Polička, he should send his regards there. He received letters from Karel Šebánek and replied to him. Could FB ask Šebánek what is the situation regarding photographic reproduction machines? He had heard that some had falsely attacked the US after his return, so he was sorry that he had written little himself. BM thinks that Rudolf Firkušný should play something newer (like Pavel Bořkovec) at the [Prague Spring] Festival than his 2. Perhaps a SYMPHONY would be better. BM understands that it's not possible with Paul Sachre, but it would be good if he were invited some other time. He is a great initiator, the most important things in recent years have premiered in Basel and his commissions mean performances in Geneva. If he had been invited before the Festival, Talich or Rafael Kubelík could have repeated the DVOJKONCERT. It is a representative work, and Sacher will premiere it in Paris on 23 February. Also, the 3rd SYMPHONY could be performed, BM would want a really serious work to be heard there. LIDIC will have the score sent through the consulate. He's curious how he'll like the 2nd. SYMPHONY. BM thanks for the confidence, which makes him happy and is a boost. He is confident that together they can do a great deal of positive work. Say hello to CF!
