Content and physical description
Content"Frescoes" was staged by orch. Czech Philharmonic Orchestra with enthusiasm. Ančerl asked Gramofonové závody to prepare one magn. tape with the recording (of Fresky) for BM, but they were not allowed to do so and said they would send BM "a folio before the record comes out" so that BM could check it. To this day, Gramophone Works has not released either the Bouquet or the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, which Ančerl recorded long ago. Ančerl no longer knows how to deal with them. "Frescoes" was also recorded for stereo discs.
Ančerl heard from Karel Šebánek that BM was not doing well health-wise. He hopes that the stay in Nice will help BM.
Ančerl was not able to invite Charles Rosen to Czechoslovakia, all invitations to foreign artists go through the State Music Agency. Ančerl could not invite him to the Czech Philharmonic until the 1961-62 season.
Next season (1959-60) the Czech Philharmonic's big tour: Edinburgh, New Zealand, Australia, Philippines, India, Japan and China - they will play the Fourth Symphony several times from BM works. In the spring [1960] further tours of Europe, the Prague season of the ČF therefore depleted. Ančerl originally wanted to give "Lidice" and Symphony No. 1 in Prague next season [1959/60], but now he will wait for "Parabolas" and "Estampes".
