Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů apologises to Paul Sacher that [he and Charlotte Martinů] will not be coming to Basel for the concert [24 October, performance of THE SMITH SEXTET]. The journey via Mulhouse and Geneva is long and arduous and travelling by plane would be too expensive. BM would like to see Paul and Maja Sacher, as well as Chip and Monique [i.e., Marcel Mihalovici and his wife Monique Haas], but SEXTET is an old work and he doesn't feel it necessary to travel for it. ChM suggested he go alone, but he can't because of his hearing problems.
He [and ChM] listen to the radio. The previous day they heard an announcement on a station from Turin about a performance of EPOS ON GILGAMES (apparently with Ferruccio Scaglia) and a Strasbourg performance of TWELVE CONCERTS with Charles Bruck.
BM has no news about the performance of JULIET [in Wiesbaden, see Sac 1958-09-23], only from Prague he is told that it will take place on 26 Jan.
He is working on GREEK PASSIONS and would like to finish Act 4 there.
