| Content | Bohuslav and Charlotta Martinů tell Paul and Maja Sacher that they received a telegram from them after the [premiere of the] concert [CONCERTA DA CAMERA], but no letter for a long time. In general, they receive no mail at all - neither from family nor from friends in Cannes. They have received only one letter from Geneva from the Honeggers announcing that the premiere of the Sonata for Cello and Orchestra [SONATA DA CAMERA] will probably take place on 17 April.
BM was glad for the [premiere of] the violin concerto [CONCERTA DA CAMERA], only regretted that he could not be with the addressees.
SINFONIETTA GIOCOSA, which BM wrote in Aix-en-Provence, will have its premiere on 16 Mar. Then, at the end of the month, the American premiere of TWO CONCERTS, conducted by Sergei Koussevitzky, will take place in Boston. SK is excited and BM is looking forward to hearing the piece again.
On 3/18, they [with ChM] will be in Washington for the Washington premiere of the Sonata for Cello and Piano [SONATA No. 2]. BM will be very much in need of his Cello Sonata No. 1, which was left with Pierre Fournier. PS is to ask Fournier to send a copy to the composer.
BM has a commission from the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His time in the USA is passing more quickly than in Europe and he has little time to work. Many people want him to write something, but the conditions are not ideal and things are getting more and more confusing.
BM asks recipients to write to Karolina Martinů in Polička. She gives her address. They cannot write themselves. They would like to have messages from the addressees as well, but they don't know if the postal connection works; BM has written to them several times.
BM received a letter in January from Marcel Mihalovici, who wrote to him about Monique Haas' visit to Basel. BM has also learned from friends that Tibor Harsányi is planning to go to America - this will now be very difficult.
BM and ChM are still living in Jamaica [New York] and often go to New York. They have met many friends from France. Wanda Landowska is in New York. Alexandre Tansman has gone to California; they didn't get to meet him.
The writer's English is improving, but ChM is unhappy about hers.
BM and ChM often talk to friends about the Sachers. They would like to return as soon as possible. They may go to the mountains for the holidays.
They have no news of Nelly Louise Frey [or Jean Rudolph Frey?]
BM is respected in America but still lacks something and hasn't gotten used to it. Everything is big and wild and lacking in moderation.
BM can read in English and enjoys the wide selection of books.
