Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinu has not got any news from Ernest Roth for a long time. He would like to know if ER will take his latest scores. He sent THE EPIC OF GILGAMESH scores through the NY branch, and Paul Sacher wants to know if ER will release them. BM also sent the cantata THE OPENING OF THE SPRING, which they want to publish in a luxury edition with pictures in Prague. Martinů would like to publish this work in Prague, also considering that ER has a contract with Artia. BM asks ER to comment on his plans with his scores and asks what happened to the scores for LOCANDIERA and THE ROCK. Martinů has no information about JULIETTE, even though it was on program. He does not know what will happen to their contract, which expires this year. Rafael Kubelík is interested in LOCANDIERA, ER should contact him. BM dedicated THE FRESCOES OF PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA to Kubelík. ER should write at Martinu’s address in the Great Northern Hotel as soon as possible.

Dear Ernest:

I regret very much not to see you in Europe and for long time I am without any news. Here too I got no news and would like to know your decision about my last scores, if you take them or not. I sent you through N.Y. office the manuscript of Gilgamesh and P. Sacher would like to know if you publish it. I sent also a little cantate Otvírání studánek, which I wrote for my town in Czecho. They would like in Praha to make a luxury edition with pictures and as you have a contract with Artia it would please me and would be better to print it in Praha, what do you think? It is really a special Czech piece. Please let me know soon about your plans, that I can eventualy [? disposed] with scores. What happened with Locandiera and Scala, it is important to me I could make my disposition to come to Europe. No news for Juliette, despite that it was on programe? And what about the new contract, the old expires this year. Kubelík is interested in Locadiera, get in touch with him. I dedicated the della Francesca to him. Please write me soon at the at Great Northern Hotel.

Sincerely yours

B. Martinů
