Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů writes to Karel Novák that he had a rich correspondence about his birthday and an even richer one about the OPENING OF THE STUDIOS, which seems to have captivated the audience, but this is more to the credit of [Miloslav] Bures' moving poem. BM will send the sonata [perhaps violin sonata No. 3, H 303?] for KN in a package for Shebas [Karel Šebánek]. BM is curious to know how they captured the SYMPHONIC FANTASY and whether [Karel] Ančerl did it well, it's a difficult piece to report. Ch[arles] Munch did it tremendously. KN has to write how it turned out and whether BM fell out of favor again. The photos with [Vaclav] Talich didn't arrive, but maybe they will. Better not to send anything recando. They might meet KN in Holland on the [Czech Philharmonic] tour. Maria [Martinů] sent BM programs and letters for inclusion. BM is about to travel to Europe, where she and Charlotte [Martinů] are looking forward to, there is a rush in New York and they already prefer quiet. BM has written a new CLASSICAL CONCERT [No. 4] for Ruda [Firkušný]. He was on the phone with [David[ Oistrakh. The [Czech Philharmonic] would need [Rafael] Kubelík. He will send home some new copies, he has not renewed his contract with Boosey & Hawkes, so he is free. BM read a speech by [Otakar] Šourek, who quoted Stáňa [Novák], so BM remembered. Jirák [Karel Boleslav] did not die and will live long. [Jan] Löwenbach was ill, but he is also better.
