Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů apologizes for not writing for a long time. He has a busy schedule and a lot of arranging with his planned departure. They have not yet arranged the documents to be able to return to the USA. So they may have to cancel their visit to Europe, including the Prague Spring Festival where Charles Munch will conduct SYMPHONY No. 1. Much may have changed in Paris and Prague, BM remembers the situation before the war. Work for the Berkshire Summer School is also likely to delay the planned visit to Europe.
Through Mr and Mrs Puc, Martin has managed to send the score of the CONCERTO FOR TWO PIANOES to Manuel Rosenthal. MM is to arrange the matter for Monique [Haas] and Marika [Papaioanou]. He received news from Tibor Harsányi. In the meantime, BM is continuing to compose in preparation for his departure - SYMPHONY No. 5, and will also write for Paul Sacher [TOCCATA ET DUE CANZONI]. He had great success in Prague with SYMPHONY No. 2 and MEMORIAL OF THE PEOPLE, and would like to hear SYMPHONY No. 1 with Charles [Munch] there, but he does not really believe that he will be able to go to Prague. Has MM met Nadia Boulanger? They all leave in turn: [Robert] Casadessus, [Zino] Francescatti, [Samuel] Dushkin. It must be beautiful in Paris.
Does MM still do radio shows? BM was pleased with Alexis Roland-Manuel's critique. BM sent MM a package yesterday, he is to check the contents. Hopes to meet in a few weeks.
