ContentJosef Jílek spent the summer in Polička and asked Maria Martinů to give him Bohuslav Martinů's address. MM showed JJ all the composer's photographs and memorabilia. JJ is now 13 years old and plays piano and violin. He likes the piece I THINK I SHOULD GO TO SLEEP from the series SPRING IN THE GARDEN. He won the district competition with this piece and also played it in the regional round. Most recently he heard the composition LEGEND OF THE SMOKE OF THE BRAMBLE NATI at a memorial party in Polička and at the National Theatre the SMITH QUARTET No. 6 performed by the Novák Quartet. Unfortunately, most of the BM compositions are not available. He has now procured BOWS. At the end of the holidays his mother got him a book about BM's life and work. She greatly admires his thorny road to recognition. He would love to meet him. He has heard that he loves his birthplace and used to visit it annually. Perhaps he will do so sometime in the future. He still thinks of him. To the world he is one of the greatest living composers, but to JJ he is the composer he loves most in the world, and he is proud to be Czech too.
