ContentThe writer spoke with Karel Šebánek about the interest of the State Theatre in Brno in MIRANDOLINA. The Czechoslovak Republic has the rights to five Bohuslav Martinů operas so far: ŠPALÍČEK (piano extracts have been published, the score has been copied onto the membranes by the Czech Music Fund, KS is doing the final proofreading and will make the membranes available to Dilia), JULIETTA (only the piano extracts have been published, the rest is not in the Czechoslovak Republic, the score and orchestral voices are in BM), VESELOHRA NA MOSTĚ (material is in Czechoslovak Radio and probably in the State Theatre in Brno), DIVADLO ZA BRÁNOU and HLAS LESA (materials for both are in Czechoslovak Radio, according to KS). JULIETTA is unnecessary for Dilia because of its subject matter and the lack of accessible material.
BM stays in France until September and then leaves for the USA. KS proposes to negotiate with BM and Boosey & Hawkes about replacing JULIETTA with MIRANDOLINA (which is due to open in Milan in the autumn).
The writer would like to reopen the question. She would like to make thorough preparations and present the composer with a fixed proposal already. Perhaps only the publisher's share could be sent to England and the royalties for BM would remain with his family. KS would certainly help.
The matter is urgent, theatres would be interested in BM's works.
