Content and physical description

Content	Robert Vannoy tells Miloš Šafránek that he received a reply to his letter from Charlotte Martinů during her stay in Prague. RV had read in the text of the Martinů SYMFONI No. 4 that it was commissioned by Helen and William Ziegler, so he wrote to their son to ask if he knew where Mrs Martinů was staying. In further writing, RV then sent them a recording of just Martinů SYMPHONY No. 4 (RV encloses copies of these letters to the Zieglers [filed under the signatures VanR 1967-06-26 and VanR 1967-07-20]). Circumstances permitting, RV plans to go to the East Coast and try to arrange for recordings of Martin's SYMPHONIES Nos. 1, 2, and 3 by the orchestras that originally premiered the works (Erich Leinsdorf and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra, and Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra). According to RV, SYMPHONY Nos. 4, 5, and 6 have now been representatively recorded. RV was pleased to read in Šafránek's monograph that SYMPHONY No. 3 had already been recorded, wonders that SYMPHONY No. 2 remains only in manuscript, and admires the efforts of Mr. [Jaroslav] Mihul.
