Content and physical description
ContentBM thanks the addressee for the letter and reminisces about the past and his country. BM replies negatively to the addressee's request for a new opera. Although he would like to write a 'folk opera' one day, this is not possible in the present situation. As a reason, he cites the time constraints of working on a major opera [Greek Passion], Legend [Legend of the Potato Nati Smoke] and the lack of a suitable literary subject. Given the addressee's demands for orchestral scoring, BM offers to perform his opera What People Live By Tolstoy and The Marriage.
