Content and physical description
ContentMartinů regrets that due to circumstances his contract with Melantrich cannot be extended. Up to now, however, he has arranged for the performance of his compositions himself, as the publishing house was not established, which might have changed but for circumstances. Martinů proposes that Melantrich should commission only the works that he wishes to publish in the future and that the others should be free for publication. He will probably come to Prague in February and arrange the others. Their rental fee is exorbitant and makes performance rather impossible. This system did not work even with Stravinsky. To ask 1000Kč for the CONCERTINO [FOR CL. TRIO AND SM. ORCH.] is exorbitant, and London is likely to refuse a performance, as it did for LEGENDS OF ST. DOROTHY'S MELODIES. They should write a list of the works they have decided to publish so that Martinů will know which are available. He asks to send the score of ROND and the arrangement of the march from THE BRIDGE OF VESELOHRY; he will try to have it performed in Paris. He gave them the material for CONCERTINA [FOR CLAVIER. TRIO AND SM. ORCH.] in March in Prague.
