Content and physical description
ContentDuring Bohuslav Martinů's illness, Karl Vötterle will be in correspondence with Paul Sacher, whom he now considers to be BM's representative, regarding the terms of the publication of BM compositions.
La LOCANDIERA: KV likes it very much, besides the Basel performance in progress he also suggests Germany, Prague. On the translation of the opera, should they use the title Locandiera, or Mirandolina? He suggests a well-known name as translator - Prof. Albrecht or Stüber. The translation into English could be provided by Dilia. He also sends suggestions regarding financial conditions and publishing rights in various European countries.
ZBOJNICKY PÍSNĚ: KV will be happy to take them over. He thinks it makes sense to cooperate again with the Czech State Music Publishing House because of the income from the operation; the Czechs have very good male choirs.
HORA TŘI SVĚTÍ SVĚTEL: Here, on the other hand, the KV sees fewer advantages, both because of the cast and because these works are not sung in their churches. He recommends that the work be further postponed and the date of publication left open.
Saleable choral scores will be printed for all choral works, with BM receiving 10% of the proceeds.
The Sonata for Flute, Violin and Piano is very much to KV's liking and he has had it planted straight away so that it will be on the market as soon as possible. BM will again receive 10% of the sales.
INCANTATIONS would be put on hold by KV for now unless BM directly insists on their immediate release.
The KV would like to publish the CONCERT FOR TWO PIANOES AND ORCHESTRA as soon as possible; they could keep the autogr. clean copy of the score at the same time as the conductor's score, which they will only reproduce, and publish the voices separately as performance material.
PARABOLES: The voices are already in production, here BM will have a 20% share of the loan.
At the end of the letter he reminds us that he would need a piano lift of the Locandiera as soon as possible.
When KV receives a positive reply, he will have the contracts drawn up in English and forwarded to BM immediately. KV is very interested in long-term cooperation. He asks if BM also has mixed choirs, he would be very interested in these.
