Content and physical description
ContentDilia answers Bohuslav Martinů's questions again, because the correspondence between them is confused.
For foreign performances of works belonging to Dilia, it is not necessary to deal directly with her. The publishing house has representation in many European countries and in the USA. The writer makes this clear by using the example of Boosey & Hawkes, with whom he is in the process of concluding a contract. Does BM agree to have its works represented by B&H?
In Dilia they were willing from the beginning to promote JULIET and reproduce material for it. However, they don't have a master copy. They had written to the composer and to B&H about it long ago, but B&H did not comply and sent the score directly to Wiesbaden. BM wasted two years. He should have written to B&H publishers to instruct the Wiesbaden theatre to send the score to Dilia. The writer lists the payments that would be involved. Does BM agree with this solution?
The Dilia has previously negotiated unsuccessfully with B&H about THE SPALIER, THE GREAT MAN ON THE BRIDGE, THE THEATRE BEHIND THE BRANCH, JULIET and MIRANDOLINA. They are still willing to reproduce all BM operas and make the materials available to B&H or another foreign partner.
Melantrich has the publishing rights to JULIET. Dilia has permission from him to reproduce the orchestral material, and hopefully BM will send her the score. According to Karel Šebánek, BM has agreed to reproduce the score. B&H allegedly has a contract with BM for THE BRIDGE, but will not reproduce the material. BM is supposed to confirm the existence of this contract. Czechoslovak Radio has the material. BM agrees (according to KS) that Dilia will reproduce THEATRE BEHIND THE GATE.
The writer asks for a reply and suggests a personal meeting in Vienna or elsewhere.
