Content and physical description
ContentAlfred Schlee is pleased that Bohuslav Martinů accepted Margrit Weber's commission [for the CONCERT FOR KALVIER AND ORCHESTRA No. 5 (FANTASIA CONCERTANTE)]. A chamber work will probably suit her better than a virtuoso work; MW wants valuable and brilliant music, not dodecaphony. Will BM be able to submit the score at the end of the year so that MW can perform the work from the 1958/59 season? Universal Edition would also print a pocket score.
The matter with the Cleeveland Orchestra [premiere of THE SCALE] seems to be going well.
Rafael Kubelík and Webster are negotiating [for a performance of GREEK PASSIONS at Covent Garden]. A decision will be made in July.
In the UE archive they have TRIO FOR FLUTE, VIOLONCELLO AND PIANO, QUARTET FOR OOBOY, VIOLONCELLO AND PIANO, CONCERT FOR TWO PIANOS AND ORCHESTRA, PIANO TRIO No. 2, SONATA No. 3 for cello and piano and SONATA No. 1 for piano. Should these pieces return to BM?
