Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů informs Paul [and Maja] Sacher that they [and Charlotte Martinů] are staying in New York after a busy trip. They have been very well received in artistic circles, have met many friends, and BM has discovered that he has a good reputation there.
He has not stopped since his arrival. He has been impressed by the quality of the orchestras and other things that have been lacking in Europe of late. He and ChM arrived in a sorry state, but after a few days they have recovered and are beginning to adjust to their new life. BM feels confident and the change of scenery will not make him back down from his intentions.
He will write more later. He needs time to absorb everything.
Materially, hopefully later everything will go well and with the help of his friends there he will be able to live and work in peace. He looks forward to writing again. He regrets that he does not understand English, but this will improve with time.
He has not yet had time to work on the violin concerto [CONCERTO DA CAMERA], but will start as soon as possible. He will be busy because he doesn't have many pieces with him and he is asked for scores that have been left in Europe, so he has to write new things.
Sergei Alexandrovich Koussevitsky will perform on 25 Apr. CONCERTO GROSSO. They found a copy of it in New York.
BM is glad to have the score of the DUKE CONCERT with him. He has offered the piece to Dimitri Mitropoulos to perform.
