| Content | Bohuslav Martinů finally received a letter from Karel Šebánek. He is disappointed that he does not answer his questions, he assumes that he did not receive his previous letter. Ralph Hawkes also complained to him that no one from Melantrich was answering his letters or the offer of a contract. BM doesn't want to act as a go-between for them, they have to sort everything out between themselves. BM reiterates that he would not have commissioned his works from Melantrich if it were not for KS. He would like to know what his situation is. He is saving the performance of his works (Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 2, Field Mass) and it only costs him money, whereas Melantrich should have taken care of it. He doesn't know what will happen to JULIETTE because of the English text, when the SPALIER will be ready, etc. He would have the possibilities to push the works (JULIETTE, THE BRIDGE OF THE BRIDGE, PLAYS ABOUT MARY), but he dare not undertake or promise anything because he has no materials. He would like to have his works made in Prague, but he has nothing. He regrets that he has to commission some of the things he promised KS elsewhere. He asks for the address of the record company [Ultraphon, recording of SYMFONIE No. 4, ČF, dir. Rafael Kubelík], is outraged and determined to put things right. Also the question of his money at OSA and Melantrich must be finally settled. He asks whom he should turn to. He doesn't want to hear all the talk about how much everyone respects and likes him. KS has to write openly if there are any problems with the Syndicate and if he needs anything. He is looking forward to the Spade. He says hello to Karl Šolc, enjoys the lift and looks forward to the next one. If Václav Mikota is going to be the director, BM refuses to cooperate further. The paper from Paris, which BM signed, can be filed somewhere. Nevertheless, he is interested in KS's future plans. He will try to find out what kind of apparatus the brother will need. |
