Content and physical description
ContentAccording to Šafránek, Hoffmann is interested in translating the libretto (Three Wishes), and BM would accept the collaboration with the greatest pleasure; he sends a piano excerpt with the text; it would be an "adaptation", in which it is possible "to preserve a certain freedom of translation by adding or removing notes of the vocal part", except for the places "which are unchangeable in their rhythmic element, but there are not many of them"; the translation will certainly be very difficult; the changes in the vocal part must be written out in red ink; the piano extract is only indicative, 'I would only make a definitive adaptation with the German text'; he asks Hoffmann to give the piano extract to Heinrich Burkard for inspection, who has offered BM 'certain possibilities of performing the opera'; he appends a list of works performed in Germany: two premieres "Quartett and Duo", works at the Baden-Baden Festival, works in the repertoire of the Hindemith Quartet, premieres both "here" and in America in Boston (The Tempest), further information can be provided by Burkard; with II. Actions he wants to be finished in March, wants to have the "whole work" completed by the holidays so that he can place it on the stage; Hoffmann is to communicate his decision and conditions; address BM and H. Burkard.
