Content and physical description
ContentRichard Klos recalls his visit to Charlotte Martinů with Prof. [Josef] Páleníček at the Vieux Moulin. He regrets that he has not yet received the letter sent to ChM in May. He gives the promised reports. Supraphon's work on the publication of the HOUSEL CONCERT No. 1 has been delayed by the illness of Josef Suk, who was constantly consulted. A piano extract has been prepared, and it will not be until next year that the large score and performance materials will be available for loan. The sound picture for the pressing of the records is also ready. The CHF will try to speed up the process.
RK has managed to negotiate that the book of ChM's memoirs will be published not only in Czech but also in English as early as next year and then in French, Russian (expecting a lot of interest) and hopefully in German the following year. The Czech translation will be published by Supraphon, for foreign language editions it is better to use the publishing house of the CHF, i.e. Panton.
The International Music Festival in Brno has included several works by Bohuslav Martinů in the programme. HOUSEL CONCERT No. 1 will be performed by the Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Charles Mackerras, soloist Josef Suk. CZECH MADRIGALS and INCANTATIONS will be performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Václav Neumann with pianist J. Mogilevsky. TRIO No. 1 and SYMPHONY No. 4 will also be performed. It would be good if ChM could hear it.
[Jaroslav] Mihule continues with the text of the statutes of the Swiss Bohuslav Martinů Foundation and other documents. RK sends them to ChM in the original text.
RK is very much looking forward to hearing about the BM quartet manuscript, which is said to be in the possession of a friend of ChM. It is a pity that they will not be able to perform it at this year's festival in Brno. It would have been suitable for the 1975 Prague Spring Festival programme. Anyway, the CHF would like to publish this work.
