Content and physical description
ContentBohuslav Martinů apologises to the addressee [perhaps Alois Hába], who is probably already expecting a letter and an article on the concert [of the Přítomnost association held on 18 April 1939]. BM is very busy and worried and the article has slipped his mind, he couldn't have written much. He understands the addressee's difficulty with the programme and regrets that at least one of the larger things could not be placed, they are only such branch compositions except DUA, but that is already known in this country. As for the Serenade for two violins and viola, BM can't even remember what piece it is or from what period. BM would have been pleased if the addressee had pointed out at the concert that these are pieces from an earlier period. The addressee is not to take this as a criticism; BM knows that circumstances did not allow for the programme they both would have liked. Perhaps later the situation will be more favourable. BM thanks the addressee for his efforts. With his place in Prague it is probably ruined. PS Addressee's message to V. H. [to or from Václav Holzknecht] forwarded, the address is 43 Boulv. de l'Observatoire, Paris [the correct address is Avenue de l'Observatoire, where La Maison du Fontainier is located].
