| Content | Evžen Zámečník thanks Jan Novák for his New Year wishes and also wishes him a Happy New Year. At the same time he sends by mail a gramophone recording of Greek Passions by Bohuslav Martinů in Czech version. If JN already has the recording, he should donate it to other Czech musicians abroad. EZ assumes that JN knows about the original English recording with Charles Mackerras, he sends the Czech version for comparison, sung by Richard Novák and Vilém Přibyl, conducted by Libor Pešek. EZ thanks for the news, but doesn't understand some things, for example he asks about the school in Stuttgart or preparation for New York. EZ complains that he has also been composing less in the last six months, working on some proofreading, and his violin concerto [Violin Concerto No. 1] has been published. He also mentions that they have been ill in the family, but he wants to start doing something proper now. He and the Brno Brass Band have given several concerts outside Brno, and have also been on radio and television. They are preparing for the premiere of Brno Allegro by Jan Kapr and Offenbach Metamorphoses by Günter Bialas. With the Bohuslav Martinů Chamber Orchestra, they will be recording a record for Panton featuring these works: PARTITA (SUITA No. 1) and SEXTET by BM, Partita for 16 strings by Miloslav Istvan and Musica giocosa o EZ. He sends greetings from Pavel Kühn's ex-wife Marta Kühn, who now works at Pantone. EZ also writes that the Bohuslav Martinů Chamber Orchestra will be in Vienna in April and at the Neuberg Festival near Mürzuschlag in early August. EZ is still playing the violin. He is looking forward to hearing more from JN and will send him something once he has his recordings. |
