Content and physical description
ContentJan Novák replies to Eugene Zámečník's letter of 30 January. He thanks him for sending the Greek PASSION, JN already has them, but he is giving them to one of his daughters [Clara and Dora Novák]. JN should have listened to this, but he has no time, he is ill and can do nothing more. JN has a commitment in Stuttgart since last semester, but it's not worth much. He is no longer preparing for New York, he was supposed to be there, but Kubelík [Rafael] broke his arm and cancelled the concerts. JN was also supposed to recite at the concerts, and Dvořák's concerto with Firkušný and Bohuslav Martinů's PAMATNIK LIDICÍM were to be played. Congratulations to EZ on the activities of the BBB [Brno Brass Band]. JN's works will be performed in Lausanne and in Ulm, where his daughter CN and her mother Eliška Nováková also performed a work. The rest of the letter is in CN's handwriting. The latter writes that she was commissioned by JN to finish and send this letter. JN was diagnosed with a brain tumour, had an operation and is still very ill. JN is exhausted, the left side of his body is paralysed and he can barely open his eyes. DN has also come from New York and together with EN they are taking turns with him day and night trying to make him feel better, but this is difficult. They listened to the farce about the vat before entering the hospital and liked it very much. At the end of the letter CN says that he hopes to be better soon and will contact EZ himself.
